St. Jude Family,
Last week, Father Michael and I lead the students on a walk around our campus to participate in Move Your Feet to Give Someone a Seat. This Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) initiative brings awareness for the need of financial aid for students across our diocese. We are truly blessed here at St. Jude when it comes to financial assistance. This year, we have received funding for tuition assistance from the CEF, the Tax Credit Scholarship program, the Vercellotti Trust, parish organizations such as the Catholic Council of Women and Knights of Columbus, as well as private donors. So far this school year students from St. Jude have received $111,962.50 in financial assistance! That number will increase as the year progresses, thank you to everyone who has played a part in this success.
Believe Benefit Auction Success
Early numbers from the Believe Benefit Auction look promising! Thank you to all of the teachers & school families who donated to our silent auction. Thank you to everyone who supported the Believe Benefit through the TCBY fundraiser, the Dress Down Day and Believe online auction. We appreciate everyone's support of the school.
Colder Weather & Emergency Closing Center
The weather is getting colder, winter is almost here! Unless the wind chill goes below 10℉, we will not have indoor recess because of the temperature. We will continue to have outdoor recess regularly throughout the school year. Please ensure your child is prepared for the weather with proper clothing. In the event of weather causing our school to close to start late, please visit www.emergencyclosing.com.
Halloween: October 31st
In celebration of Halloween on Wednesday, October 31st, St. Jude school will have a parade of costumes at 11:50 a.m. outside on the lawn by the playground. Students in PreK should already wear their costumes from home and students in grades K-3 will put on their costumes at school. PreK-3rd grade will then march in the parade of costumes for the 4th-8th graders and any parents that would like to attend. If weather does not permit to have the parade outside, we will have it in the gym. After the parade, students will be having Halloween parties organized by their room parents. Students in grades K-3rd should still wear their uniforms to school that day and bring their costumes to change. All students are invited to wear “Halloween-themed” socks that day with their school uniform.
Day of the Dead
We have set up an altar in hallway for the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died and help support their spiritual journey. People go to cemeteries to be with the souls of the departed and build private altars containing the favorite foods and beverages, as well as photos and memorabilia, of the departed. If you would like to send in pictures of your friends and family members to be displayed on our altar, please send them in.
Christmas Parade Float Meeting: November 6th
Light up the Holiday Festival & Parade is on Friday, November 23rd, 2018 and St. Jude School will be participating. We will be incorporating this year’s theme “Wave Walker” with the traditional Christmas scene. Please join us on November 6th at 5:30 p.m. in the Art Room to assist us with our school float. See attached flyer for more information.
Box Tops Competition Now is the time to turn-in all those Box Tops you have at home. Our contest ends tomorrow, Friday October 26th . We will be tallying up the class numbers. We want to give a prize to all students, but to do so each class needs to meet their class goal. How many Box Tops have you send in? As a school, our goal is 20,000 Box Tops for the year. Thank you for your support along the way.
